In 2015, the Irish association football team, Shelbourne F.C. are competing in the League of Ireland First Division for the second successive season following failed attempt at promotion having been knocked out in the promotion play-off's the previous season. This season is currently commencing. Philip Hughes returned to the club after a loan-spell at Drogheda United F.C. and the club saw new management under former football player Kevin Doherty after Johnny McDonnell left the side prior to the start of the season.
