In 2016, the Irish association football team, Shelbourne F.C. are competing in the League of Ireland First Division for the third successive season following two failed attempts at promotion having finished fourth in the previous season. This season is currently commencing. Kevin Doherty continues on as manager for the second consecutive season. The squad had been significantly renewed over the previous season after many transfers were brought in.

• Shelbourne beat Cabinteely 5-0 in the first round.
• Shelbourne beat Bohemains 4-3 on penalties after finishing 0-0 after extra-time in the second round.
• Shelbourne meets Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park on Monday, May 2nd for the Quarter-Finals.

Leinster Senior Cup

Shelbourne lost to Dundalk F.C. in the second round of the Leinster senior cup.
