2016 DFB-Pokal Final
The 2016 DFB-Pokal Final will decide the winner of the 2015–16 DFB-Pokal, the 73rd season of Germany's premier football cup. It will be played on 21 May 2016 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Bayern Munich, the record-title holders who last won in 2014, will face Borussia Dortmund, who have lost in the two previous finals and last won in 2012.
Bayern and Dortmund will also face each other in the 2016 DFL-Supercup, with the host being the winning finalist if neither team complete the double, or the 2015–16 Bundesliga runners-up if one of the teams completes the domestic double. Because both Bayern and Dortmund qualified for the Champions League, the sixth-place team in the 2015–16 Bundesliga earns automatic qualification for the group stage of next year's edition of the UEFA Europa League, and the league's third qualifying round spot will go to the team in seventh.[1]
Background
It will be Bayern's twenty-first final, with a record of seventeen wins, the most of any club, and three losses prior. It will be Dortmund's eighth overall and third consecutive final, with a record of three wins and four losses prior. This will be the fourth DFB-Pokal final between Bayern and Dortmund, having previously met in 2008, 2012, and 2014, making it the most common final. Of these, Bayern have won two (in 2008 and 2014), while Dortmund have won once (2012).[2]
The game will be Bayern coach Pep Guardiola's final match, after three years in charge of the team.[3]
