The 2016 Jerusalem bus bombing was a Hamas sponsored[1] bomb attack targeting a bus in Jerusalem, Israel, on 18 April 2016. At least 21 people were injured, two of which were critically injured.[2][3][4] The bombing occurred at around 18:00 in the Talpiot neighborhood of Jerusalem.[5]
Security services confirm that the bombing was a terror attack. The explosion, on a Egged bus #12, set an adjacent bus, which was mostly empty, and a nearby car aflame. Most of the injuries were to passengers on the #12 Egged bus. This is the first attack on a bus in Jerusalem since 2011.[6]
Victims
One day after the bombing, 2 victims continued in serious condition and 5 in moderate condition, all in hospital, while 13 more victims sustained minor injuries and some of these had already been discharged from hospital.[7]
Perpetrator
The perpetrator lost several limbs and succumbed in hospital several days after the bombing, but Police did not confirm whether or not one of the individuals hospitalized was the bomber.[7]
Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing, naming Abdul Hamid Abu Srour (19) as the alleged bomber.[1]
Investigation
A police forensic team discovered remnants of a bomb in the wreckage.[7] The investigation is under a police gag order.[7]
