Team changes

• KTM will join the series with a factory-supported team.^[8]
• The grid will expand to twenty-four entries.^[9] But later the MotoGP organisers have decided to postpone and extra entry to the grid, meaning there'll be 23 bikes only in 2017.

Rider changes

• After nine seasons with Yamaha, Jorge Lorenzo will join to Ducati at the end of 2016 season.
• Bradley Smith will leave Tech 3 Yamaha to join the new KTM team.
• Sam Lowes will make his MotoGP début with Aprilia Racing Team Gresini.
• Jonas Folger move up to premier class with Monster Yamaha Tech 3.
