Two Boroughs Radio (known on air as 2BR) is a commercial radio station serving East Lancashire in England. It is owned and operated by UKRD and broadcasts from studios at Clayton-le-Moors in Accrington, sharing facilities with sister station The Bee.

It broadcast from studios in the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate in Nelson, then in August 2010 2BR moved to Accrington-based 'The Studios' with sister station The Bee.

Overview

2BR launched on 25 July 2000, serving the Burnley, Pendle and Hyndburn areas from studios at the Lomeshaye Industrial Estate in Nelson with its transmitter located on Pendle Hill in Newchurch in Pendle, near Fence.

Although the station's name refers to the "2 Boroughs" of Burnley and Pendle, 2BR also covers Hyndburn. Broadcasting stations in the United Kingdom do not use callsigns, but as "2" is a prefix assigned by the ITU to callsigns in Great Britain, 2BR is technically a valid radio callsign.

In August 2010, the station moved to Clayton-le-Moors, co-locating with The Bee.

On 4 April 2016, UKRD announced 2BR would merge with sister Lancashire station The Bee in June as part of an expansion onto DAB. The 2BR branding will be retained with all programming shared between the two stations, alongside opt-outs for local news, traffic and advertising.[1]

Programming

All of 2BR's programming is produced and broadcast from its Clayton-le-Moors studios. Live programming airs from 6am-2pm and 3-7pm on weekdays and from 8am-4pm at weekends. All other output is automated.[2]

The station's presenters are Tim Littlechild, Helen Wakefield and Andy Hilbert.

News

2BR broadcasts hourly local news bulletins from 6am-7pm on weekdays and 8am-2pm at weekends, with headlines on the half-hour during weekday breakfast and drivetime shows. National bulletins from Sky News Radio are carried every hour at all other times.[3]

2BR's news team, shared with sister station The Bee, includes head of news Sarah Collins and broadcast journalists Victoria Glover and Laura Pratt.
