9 Pistolas is the debut album by American guitarist and singer Legz Diamond & The Purple Gang - (Jumpsteady and Sugar Slam). Released on March 19, 2013, the album is Legz Diamond & The Purple Gang's first full-length release on Psychopathic Records. It's the first release on the label by Legz Diamond after having contributed to numerous Psychopathic releases as a guitarist, including albums by Insane Clown Posse.[1] The album features guest appearances by Bushwick Bill and Cold 187um.[3]
Music style
According to ICP's Violent J, 9 Pistolas "doesn't sound like anything else Psychopathic has ever released", explaining, "Legz Diamond is a singer not a rapper but this isn't a rock album and its not an R&B album. There’s definitely nothing pop about it but it’s not a rap album either. It has attitude and aggression like most Psychopathic releases but it's almost like a brand new style of music for us."[1] Legz Diamond plays acoustic guitar on "Made Man".[1]
Recording
The album was recorded in The Cabin In the Woods, a personal studio located at Violent J's house.[1]
Reception
Allmusic called 9 Pistolas "a quirky blast…The hooks, the good times, and the great feeling are always present on this attractive ride through rap-rock and whatnot."[2] Favortable reviews also appeared in Metro Times and Real Detroit.[4]
