Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center
The Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center (ADTC) is a secure correctional facility operated by the New Jersey Department of Corrections. Its purpose is to provide treatment for certain repetitive and compulsive male sex offenders who have been ruled as violent sexual predators. The facility is located in the Avenel section of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. ADTC houses and treats two groups of men: 1. Certain convicted sex offenders willing to engage in treatment who have been sentenced by the Court to serve their sentences at the facility, and 2. Men who have completed their prison time but have been civilly committed, having been deemed highly likely to reoffend if released on parole. Originally, the ADTC was an annex facility to the Northern Regional Unit, located in Kearny, which had a population of 150. It was hoped that the two groups could be united in one location. In 2010, the Kearny facility was closed and the 150 men there were transferred to Avenel. As of 1/1/2013, the facility had a population of 681.
