Aghvan Arshavir Vardanyan (Armenian: , born on October 7, 1958 in the village of Gemur in Nakhichevan), is an Armenian Politician
Biography
In 1969, his family settled down in Armenia. In 1977-1982, he studied at YSU Faculty of Philology. In 1982-1987, he was the Executive Secretary of the “Yerevan University” newspaper. During the next 3 years Aghvan Vardanyan worked for “Aghbyur” and “Garoun” magazines. In 1987, he became a member of Writers Union of Armenia. In 1990, Vardanyan joined the “Armenian Revolutionary Federation” party. In 1990-1993, he was appointed Secretary of the Writer’s Union of Armenia. In the years 1991 to 1993, he was the Chief Editor of the newspaper “Yerkir”, later from 1993 to 1994 employee of the radio station named “Azatutyun” (Liberty). In 1994-1996, Vardanyan worked for the magazine “Droshak” in Athens. He was also Chief Editor of the Media Center “Yerevan” (1996-1999). In 1999, he was elected Deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, also a member of ARF Bureau. In 2001, Aghvan Vardanyan was elected a member of ARF Supreme Body, Head of ARF faction. In 2003, Vardanyan was elected Deputy of the RA National Assembly and was appointed the RA Minister of Social Security. He is married and has 2 children. The RA Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Aghvan Vardanyan was dismissed from office, according to the RA President’s Decree “A. Vardanyan” №:134 –A made on June 2, 2008.
