Alexander Scrymgeour, 12th Earl of Dundee
Alexander Henry Scrymgeour, 12th Earl of Dundee (born 5 June 1949) is a Scottish peer and Conservative politician.
Dundee is the son of Henry Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, 11th Earl of Dundee, and Patricia Montagu Douglas Scott.[1] He was educated at Eton College and the University of St Andrews.
He has sat in the House of Lords since 1983 and served as a Lord-in-Waiting (Conservative Party whip in the House of Lords) from 1986-1989. He served as Government Spokesperson for Education 1986-88, Government Spokesperson for Scottish Affairs 1986-89, Government Spokesperson for Home Affairs and for Energy 1987-89. He was made an elected hereditary peer (as Earl of Dundee) in 1999.[2]
He has served as the UK delegate to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe from 1992-97. He was also a Member of the Council of Europe parliament and the Western European parliament from 1992-99.[3] The Earl is honorary consul of Croatia in Edinburgh,[4] and is decorated with the Order of Prince Branimir.[5]
Lord Dundee is also the Hereditary Royal Standard Bearer of Scotland,[6] Constable of Dundee, and Chief of the Name and Arms of Scrymgeour.
Family
Lord Dundee married Siobhan Mary Llewellyn on 19 July 1979. They have four children:
- Lady Marina Patricia Scrymgeour (born 21 August 1980) She married Philip E. Thompson in 2004 and has a son.
- Henry David Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, Viscount Dudhope (born 20 June 1982). He married Eloise Van Der Hayden in 2005 and has a son.
- Lady Flora Hermione Vera Scrymgeour (born 1985). She was educated at St Mary's Calne, where she achieved 8 A levels. She went on to study art in the United States, and became an art therapist. She was part of the Casiraghi (children of Princess Caroline of Monaco)'s social circles.
- Lady Lavinia Rebecca Elizabeth Scrymgeour (born 1986). She was engaged as of 16 December 2010 (Richard Kay, Daily Mail) to Dominic McCann, son of Peter McCann. She was then a riding instructor, and McCann ran a private hospital for addicts. She was educated at Ampleforth.
