Alphaville: The Singles Collection is Alphaville's first "best of" compilation, consisting of remixes of singles from their first two albums, Forever Young and Afternoons in Utopia. It was released in 1988.
Reviews
The compilation consists of 2 remixes each of 4 songs, essentially a 7" and 12" remix of each1. Only the remixes of "Big in Japan" were new mixes; all the other remixes had been made previously available (although for some, this was the first time on CD).
Reviewers were underwhelmed by this release, as one said: "Saying that the band could have been served better with this compilation is putting it mildly."1
However, despite the flaws with the track listing, the reviews of the songs and remixes themselves are positive, with the same reviewer calling some of the choices "quite successful," "soaring," and "not-bad-at-all."1
