Ames family
The Ames family is an American family associated with establishing Ames Manufacturing Company and Ames True Temper.
John Ames (born 1738), a former blacksmith[1] arms manufacturer,[2] shovel manufacturer[3] and military captain, is the patriarch of the family.[4] After marrying Susanna Howard in the late 1750s[1][3][4] they had eight children named David, Keziah, Susanna, Huldah, Abigail, Cynthia, John, and Oliver.[3]

John Ames was captain of a company of Plymouth County militia. He served under different commands in the defense of Rhode Island. He was a leading gunmaker and furnished arms for the troops. He was born and died in West Bridgewater, Mass.
