Biography
Frederick Lothrop Ames, Jr. was born July 23, 1876 in North Easton, Massachusetts.[1] He was the second son of Frederick Lothrop Ames and Rebecca Caroline (Blair) Ames, and went by the name "Lothrop." He married Edith C.C. Cryder on May 31, 1904.[1] Lothrop graduated from Harvard College in 1898.[1]
The Ames were a wealthy family in Massachusetts and were fairly prominent in 19th century New England society. Lothrop had interests in the family shovel business as well as railroads, banking, and the breeding of Guernsey cows. He built a 50-room mansion in 1905 on his estate in North Easton, Massachusetts that would later become the campus of Stonehill College.
