Anya Taylor-Joy (born April 16, 1996[2]) is an American born Argentine-British[3] actress and model.

Life and career

Taylor-Joy was born in Miami, Florida, the youngest of six children.[4] Her mother is Spanish-English and her father is Scottish-Argentinian.[1][5] Taylor-Joy has since lived between Argentina and the United Kingdom. She is a former ballet dancer.[4]

Her major breakthrough was her leading performance as Thomasin in Robert Eggers' critically acclaimed horror film The Witch, alongside Ralph Ineson and Kate Dickie. Eggers won Best Director for the film at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

As of May 2015, she is working on her current film project Morgan, directed by Ridley Scott's son Luke Scott.

In February 2016, it was announced she would co-star in Vikram Gandhi's new film Barry, a film focused on a young Barack Obama in 1981 New York City. Taylor-Joy is set to play one of Obama's close friends.[6] In March 2016, it was reported that Taylor-Joy was being approached to star as Magik in an upcoming adaptation of the New Mutants comic book series, slated to be a part of the X-Men film franchise.[7][8]

She also was the lead actress in the music video for Skrillex remix of GTA's song "Red Lips."[9]
