Split is an upcoming American thriller film directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula, and Haley Lu Richardson. Principal photography began on November 11, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The film will be released on January 20, 2017 by Universal Pictures. This film also marks Shyamalan's second collaboration with producer Jason Blum since The Visit.

On August 26, 2015, it was announced that M. Night Shyamalan would next direct a thriller film based on his own script, which would star Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role.[3] Shyamalan would also produce the film along with Jason Blum and Marc Bienstock.[3] On October 2, 2015, James McAvoy was cast in the film to play the lead, replacing Phoenix.[1] On October 12, 2015, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula, and Haley Lu Richardson were added to the cast.[2] On October 27, 2015, Universal Pictures came on board to release the film and titled it as Split.[4]

Principal photography on the film began on November 11, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[5][6]

Release

The film was first scheduled to released on January 27, 2017.[7] Universal Pictures rescheduled the film's release to January 20, 2017.[4]
