Arnold Jürgensen (17 May 1910 — 23 December 1944) was a SS-Sturmbannführer (Major), in the Waffen-SS during World War II who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.[1]

Early life

Arnold Jürgensen was born in Tellingstedt, Holstein on the 17 March 1910. He was an early member of the NSDAP (party number 585 285) and the SS (service number 25 884).[1] He served in the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, during the Anschluss of Austria and the occupation of the Sudetenland.[1]

World War II

He served in the Balkans (Operation Marita) and the invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa) with the LSSAH.[1]

He was then transferred to the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend, and served with them during the Battle of France, where he was awarded the Knight's Cross while in command of the I.Battalion, 12th SS Panzer Regiment Hitlerjugend.[1]

He was killed in action at Büttgenbach on the 23 December 1944.
