Atwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Logan County, Colorado, United States. The population was 133 at the 2010 census.[3][4] The Atwood Post Office has the ZIP Code 80722.[2]

Atwood was named for Rev. John Atwood.[5]

Geography

Atwood is located at 40°32′43″N 103°16′25″W / 40.54528°N 103.27361°W / 40.54528; -103.27361 (40.545166, -103.273615).[6]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km2), all of it land.

Climate

This climate type occurs mostly on the outsides of the true deserts, in low-latitude semi-arid steppe regions. The Köppen Climate Classification subtype for this climate is "BSk". (Tropical and Subtropical Steppe Climate).[7]

Demographics

As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 195 people, 72 households, and 58 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 55.0 people per square mile (21.3/km²). There were 81 housing units at an average density of 22.9 per square mile (8.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.41% White, 0.51% African American, 0.51% Native American, and 2.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.23% of the population.

There were 72 households out of which 37.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.9% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.3% under the age of 18, 3.6% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 31.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $44,091, and the median income for a family was $44,205. Males had a median income of $36,375 versus $29,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $21,772. About 7.0% of families and 6.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.3% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those sixty five or over.
