BC Apollo Amsterdam is a professional basketball team based in Amsterdam. The club plays its games in the Dutch Basketball League (DBL), the Dutch top league. The club was founded in 2011 and entered the DBL in 2012.

History

The club was founded in 2011, as a result of a merger between BV Lely and Mosquitos, both clubs from Amsterdam. The club played on the license of the old ABC Amsterdam second team.[1] In the first season of the club, Apollo played as an amateur team in the Promotiedivisie. They immediately won the Dutch amateur championship.

In the 2012 the club decided to enter the Dutch Basketball League for the 2012–13 season.[2] In the first season Apollo, led by All-Star Aron Royé, ended on the 9th place in the DBL.

In 2013–14 Apollo managed to reach the Playoffs for the first time in franchise history. The club lost in the Quarterfinals 2–0 to GasTerra Flames.

After Apollo's most successful season since their establishment, the club had trouble creating a high enough budget to participate in the DBL, but the club did eventually got the job done.[3]

In 2014–15 the club played under coach Jaanus Liivak. The beginning was very tough for Apollo, but later on the club started to win more games and even had the chance to reach the playoffs. After winning against Rotterdam Basketbal, Apollo couldn't get the last two games and didn't go to the playoffs.
