Casting

In August 2014, the cast of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Chitrangda Singh, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Roopa Ganguly was announced.[2] Nandy announced that Chatterjee will be seen in a completely "new avatar" in the film, compared to his previous films and Siddiqui will portray the role of a contract killer.[2][6] Confirming the role of Ganguly, she mentioned that she will be appearing as a "foulmouthed politician" in the film.[2] Later, it was reported that Singh will play the role of a cobbler and is learning Bengali language for her dialogues.[3] In October 2014, it was announced that Tahir Raj Bhasin will be playing a "good guy" in the film.[4] Another two actors from Bengal; Biswajit Chakraborty and Tota Roy Chowdhury were announced to be a part of the cast where Chowdhury portrays the role of Das Babu, son of a zamindar, who aims to enter politics.[5]

Filming

Filming began in December 2014 in Kolkata.[7] The first 8 days of shooting took place in Bolpur, West Bengal and the team was scheduled to continue shooting in Burdwan the next day, when the production team landed into trouble with Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India as some technicians stopped shooting for the film due to "non-clearance of dues".[8] After resolving the issue, the crew moved to Burdwan, and faced another problem when they were "stuck" with more technicians than necessary, resulting in an increasing in their budget, following an allegation made against the shooting unit that they did not pay hotel bills.[5] Following the incidents, the crew returned to Mumbai, and rescheduled the whole film.[9] According to Nandy, the budget increased by nearly a crore due to this incident".[9] In May 2015, the crew returned to Kolkata to continue shoot for some scenes of the film while others were re-shot in other states.[10]
