Be Alright (Ariana Grande song)
"Be Alright" is a song by American singer Ariana Grande from her upcoming third studio album Dangerous Woman. The song was released as a first promotional single from the album.[1] Idolator's Christina Lee classified the song as both "'90s house and R&B".[2]
Background
On June 17, 2015, the song was recorded and Grande release two snippets of it.[3] In the following months, she mentioned the song on Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. On March 11, 2016, she announced on Ryan Seacrest's radio show that "Be Alright" would be released on March 18, 2016.[5]
Critical reception
"Be Alright" was well-received upon its release. Pitchfork's Corban Goble lauded the song, claiming that "it's a little more downtempo and assured than the whizzing pinball machine of something like "Break Free", but it suits Grande just as well. "Be Alright" utilizes the Deep House Lite that's en vogue these days, allowing an assured Grande to soar, though she wisely omits some of the garnish vocal runs. The chorus is compact and clever, highlighting [the song's] understated approach. Here, Grande keeps finding ways to make the hot sound of the moment work for her; it's proof she can change speeds. If you're invested in the longevity of weird personalities in pop, the versatility showcased in "Be Alright" suggests that Grande is about to go 3/3."[6]
