Benedict is a masculine given name, which comes from Late Latin name Benedictus, meaning blessed.[1] Etymologically it is derived from the Latin words bene (good) and dicte (speak) i.e. “well spoken”. The name was borne by Saint Benedict of Nursia, the founder of the Order of Saint Benedict and thereby of Western Monasticism. The Italian equivalent is Benedetto.
