Bentley is a village and civil parish in the Babergh district of Suffolk, England. about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Ipswich. The 2011 Census recorded the population as 776.[1]
Bentley has a Church of England parish church,[2] a Reformed Baptist church,[3] a Church of England primary school,[4] a pub,[5] a village hall[6] and a riding school.[7] In 2015, a Community Interest Company was formed to open a shop in the village, the new Bentley Stores is due to open in summer of 2016.[8]
Bentley has a parish council.[9] It has also a forum called Bentley Free Speech [10] that comments on matters relating to the parish council and other village issues.. There also an alternative news site called Bentley News [11] which is managed by a local resident.
The Eastern Union Railway was built through the parish and opened in 1849. Bentley railway station was about 1⁄2 mile (800 m) east of the village, and served the area until British Railways closed it in 1966. The railway is now the Great Eastern Main Line.
There used to be motorcycle scrambles events on farmland beside the primary school, which attracted crowds of spectators.
