Berryessa is an elevated Bay Area Rapid Transit station under construction and scheduled to open in the fall of 2017 in San Jose, California as part of the Silicon Valley BART extension.[1][2] The station will initially serve as a terminus with direct service to Richmond and San Francisco/Daly City and later with service to Santa Clara.[3] It will be preceded by the Milpitas BART station.

History

The station will be situated after Milpitas, and will function as a terminal station until Alum Rock station opens to the south during Phase II of the Santa Clara County extension project.[1] It will be located at the current site adjacent to the San Jose Flea Market. The station will have an eight story parking structure, a ten bay bus transit center, and be situated on 52 acres (21 ha).[1] It will feature an elevated island platform. The station will be the first BART station in San José, but will be one of a total of four stations after Phase II is complete. Until the extension to Downtown San José is complete, the station will feature express shuttles connecting it with downtown. The station will be served by the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), Santa Cruz Metro (Highway 17 Express), Monterey-Salinas Transit, SMART, and San Benito County Transit buses in addition to employer shuttles.

VTA received a $900 million grant commitment for federal funding for the Silicon Valley Extension in March 2012.[4] Demolition work for the Berryessa station site began in July 2012.[5]
