West Oakland is a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in the neighborhood of West Oakland in Oakland. It has two elevated side platforms, and is located near the eastern end of the Transbay Tube. This is the last stop before entering the Transbay Tube into San Francisco, and all trains except those of the Richmond - Fremont line pass through this station. Since early 2014 parking commuters at this station pay $6 per day. This was implemented to raise revenue, to bring parking costs at the station in line with parking at other local garages, and to ensure that parking at the stations was going to be used for BART patrons only, parking spaces would have had to be 'validated' inside the BART paid area.
The station was called Oakland West until 1982; it opened in September 1974 when the transbay tube opened.
In addition to BART, the station serves BoltBus and Megabus, which provide intercity bus service to the Patsaouras Transit Plaza at Los Angeles Union Station, as well as the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center in Orange County.[3][4]
