Reception

Despite the title, the miniseries was criticized for its significant deviations not only from Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, but the known facts of her life. Some incidents portrayed did occur, but not at the time during which the series is set, while others are entirely fictional. The appearance of characters differs from their descriptions in the books. There are also anachronisms in hairstyles, costuming, and the behavior of the characters.
