Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council election, 1973

The Metropolitan Borough of Bolton shown within England.
Elections to the newly created Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council were held in May 1973. The whole council was up for election, with wards reorganised since the last election. The reorganisation of the Council created 23 new wards, each represented by 3 Councillors, giving a total Council membership of 69.
The Conservative Party (UK) retained control of the Council by a majority of 1, and remained the dominant party, having held Bolton Council for a number of years. The Leader of the Council was J Hanscomb, who held this position until Labour took control in 1980.
