Borja Sánchez Gil (born 14 February 1987) is a Spanish footballer who plays for CD Alcoyano as a midfielder.

He spent most of his career in Segunda División B, playing over 200 games across nine seasons for eight clubs, also having brief professional spells at Girona and Greek team Kerkyra.

Football career

Born in Talavera de la Reina, Toledo, Sánchez began his career at RSD Alcalá, making his senior debut on 20 February 2005 as a late substitute in a 3–0 loss at UD Lanzarote for the season's Segunda División B. The following campaign, he played more regularly, as the team from the Community of Madrid were relegated.

He remained in the third division with Atlético Madrid B, playing just twice in 2006–07. On 17 September in his first start, a 0–1 home loss to Racing de Santander B, he received a straight red card before half time and never played for the team again. After returning to Alcalá in Tercera División, he had one-season spells back in the third tier with Real Balompédica Linense and CD Dénia, suffering relegation with the former.

On 28 June 2010, Sánchez signed a one-year deal at Girona FC, with the option for a second.[1] He made his debut for them on 1 September in a Copa del Rey second leg at the Estadi Montilivi, playing the entirety of a 1–1 draw against SD Huesca (3–5 loss in penalty shootout).[2] He was scoreless across the Segunda División season, in which he started just twice.

At the end of his sole season in Catalonia, Sánchez returned to Segunda B, signing for SD Ponferradina on 14 June 2011.[3] He totalled 34 official games and 2 goals in his campaign for Ponfe, who won promotion.

He remained in Castile and León, signing for UD Salamanca on 7 August 2012.[4] In a season which ended with relegation, he struck a career-best 13 goals, including three braces, in two victories over Sporting de Gijón B and another against CD Guijuelo.[5][6][7] Sánchez spent the next year at Huesca, who rescinded his contract for financial reasons in June 2014.[8]

The following month, he moved abroad for the first time, signing at PAE Kerkyra of Superleague Greece.[9] He made only two starts and two substitute appearances as the team from Corfu were relegated, and on 6 July 2015 he returned to his homeland's third tier at CD Alcoyano.[10]
