Brayden Holt was a recurring character in Wentworth Prison and serves as the secondary antagonist during seasons one and two. Brayden is the son of criminals Jacs and Vinnie Holt. Brayden is known for dating Bea Smith’s (Danielle Cormack) daughter Debbie, his hand in killing Debbie and then in Season 2 he was the center of Bea’s revenge plot which resulted in his death.
Background
When Brayden was a child, he witnessed his parents kill one of their friends. This is what changed Brayden.[3]
Storylines
Brayden is introduced as Jacs’ son when he visits the prison and meets Debbie Smith.[4]
In Something Dies, Brayden is shown using drugs with Debbie Smith in her room.[5]
In Mind Games, Jacs demands that Brayden kills Debbie. Brayden is heartbroke about this but still does it but he tells his mother never to contact him again. It is revealed in flashbacks in this episode that Brayden witnessed his mother murder one of their family friends for betraying Vinnie. At the end of the episode Brayden gives Debbie an overdose.[3]
In Born Again, Brayden makes a cameo appearance at the end in Bea’s dream where she says about Brayden “I’m going to kill the fucker”.[6]
In Whatever It Takes, Bea sends Harry after Brayden to avenge their daughter. Harry chickens out at the first chance he has but then manages to successfully set Brayden’s car shop on fire. Later on in the episode, Brayden and his thugs attack Harry because Brayden believes Harry set the shop on fire.[7]
In Boys in the Yard, Bea successfully attacks Brayden by cutting his face while he was visiting Simone “Simmo” Slater.[8]
In Fear Her, Bea tracks Brayden down, breaks into his flat and points a gun at him. Will Jackson talks her down and as Brayden was going to leave he smirked at what he had done and she shot him in the head.[2]
In The Governor’s Pleasure, it was revealed that after Brayden’s funeral Vinnie Holt had died. Bea was sentenced to life without parole due to the fact she claimed she’d do it again.[9]
Reception
The episode where Brayden was murdered by Bea, was nominated for an award from The Australian Writers Guild.[10]
Talking about the episode "Mind Games", Brayden killing Debbie was billed as a shock.[11]
