Bremen state election, 2003

The Bremen state election, 2003, was conducted on 25 May 2003 to elect members to the Bürgerschaft of Bremen.

Election System

The Bremen state elections have some differences from other German elections. The 67 seats elected from the city of Bremen and the 16 seats elected from the city of Bremerhaven are elected on the same day but with separate 5%-hurdles. So the FDP and DVU each took one seat from Bremerhaven, because of getting more than 5% in this city. The 67 MPs from Bremen are not only members of the state parliament, but are also the members of the city's parliament.
