Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) is a 127-square mile school district based in Lewisville, Texas (USA) covering all of Lewisville, The Colony, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Copper Canyon, and Double Oak as well as portions of Plano, Carrollton, Frisco, Hebron, Coppell, Grapevine and Argyle.[1]
The recent suburban growth of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has caused LISD to grow at a great pace, becoming the 94th-largest school district in the United States in 2006. Proximity calculated a 28.56% increase in student population from 2000 to 2006; LISD was declared the 17th largest school district in the State of Texas in 2008.[2] To help maintain this growth, in May 2008, voters approved a $697 million bond package.
In 2010, the school district was rated "Recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.[3]
District Facts
LISD is ranked as Recognized under the Texas Education Agency, and individual schools are broken down as follows:
- Exemplary: 38
- Recognized: 20
- Academically Acceptable: 2
- Academically Unacceptable: 0
For the 2010-11 school year, LISD had approximately 51,000 students enrolled, with a total staff of 6,145.
Lewisville ISD was recognized in both 2006 and 2007 as one of the 100 best communities for music education.[4] In late 2007, Standard & Poor's upgraded LISD's bond rating to AA+, the highest rating given at the time to any school district in Texas, and one of only three nationwide.[1]
For the 2009-2010 school year, LISD recognized 43 National Merit Finalists from a pool of 49 Semifinalists. On the SAT, LISD students score approximately 113 points higher than the National average; on the ACT, students score 1.7 points higher.
