Cairo International Bank (CIB) is a commercial bank in Uganda. It is one of the financial institutions licensed by the Bank of Uganda, the central bank and national banking regulator.[3]

Overview

In December 2011, Cairo International Bank was a small retail bank, with total assets valued at approximately US$30 million. This asset valuation represented less than one percent of all bank assets in Uganda and ranked Cairo International Bank as the twentieth largest commercial bank in Uganda, by assets, out of the 23 licensed commercial banks in the country at that time.

History

Cairo International Bank began operations in 1995, after receiving a commercial banking license from the Bank of Uganda.[4]

Ownership

Cairo International Bank is a joint venture between several Egyptian banks and businesses, including: Banque Du Caire, Bank of Alexandria, National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, and Kato Aromatics SAE. Kato Aromatics SAE is owned by Ibrahim Kamel, dealing in several businesses worldwide including developing an industrial park in Uganda.[5]

Branch network

Cairo International Bank has its headquarters in Greenland Towers at 30 Kampala Road, Kampala, Uganda's capital city. As of May 2014, the bank maintained the following branches:[6]

  3. Bugoloobi Branch - Spring Road, Bugoloobi, Kampala

Directors

The bank is governed by a seven person board of directors. John Elangot, one of the non-executive directors, is the chairman of the board

Management board

The managing director of Cairo International Bank is Nabil Ghanem. He is assisted by nine other managers in supervising the normal operations of the bank. 'Nabil Ghanem, together with Osama Darwish, another executive director, also sit on the board of directors.
