Candido Jacuzzi
Candido Enzo Jacuzzi (24 February 1903 – 7 October 1986) was an Italian immigrant to the United States of America. Enzo Jacuzzi invented the Jacuzzi whirlpool bath for his 15-month-old son, Kenny Jacuzzi, who was born with rheumatoid arthritis.[1]
Life
He developed a pump that enabled a whirlpool to be created in a bath as a hydrotherapeutic device for pain relief. Candido claims to have invented the first self-contained Jacuzzi tub and to have filed the first patent for it.
The Jacuzzi corporate web site credits Roy Jacuzzi with the invention instead. However, the patent for the first portable Jacuzzi was filed in 1963, Patent US 3159849 and also for the first self-contained Jacuzzi Whirlpool filed in 1964 and marketed in 1968 as the first Hydrotherapy Tub states Candido Jacuzzi as the inventor. However, after Jacuzzi was bought out in the late 1970s by Kiddie, they hired Roy Jacuzzi. During this time, the Jacuzzi company website's history was modified, changed and Roy Jacuzzi started to be viewed as the inventor. After 30 years, and with a new President in charge, the original patent US 3297025 was certified to Jacuzzi Corporation in Chino, CA.
