Cape Verde made its Paralympic Games début by sending a delegation to compete at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece. The delegation consisted in two track and field athletes who took part in shot put and discus events, and a single competitor in powerlifting. None of them won a medal.[1]
Athletics
Paulo Cesar Correira achieved a throw of 30.04m in the men's discus, in the F44-46 category for standing amputees. This gave him 601 points, ranking him twelfth and last.
In the women's discus, F42-46, Artimiza Sequeira's best shot was 16.56m, translating into 831 points, placing her thirteenth out of sixteen. She also competed in the shot put, in the same category, finishing fifteenth out of seventeen with a throw of 5.19m, and 693 points.[2]
Powerlifting
Cape Verde's single powerlifter was Paulo Cesar Tavares, who lifted 120kg, finishing last of the sixteen athletes who successfully lifted a weight; two others, from Mexico and Iran, failed to lift any weight. (The United Arab Emirates's Mohammed Khamis Khalaf won gold by lifting 217.5kg.)[3]
