Chikkadpally is a major suburb and commercial center in Hyderabad, India.

The City Central Library is located here. The devotional singer M.S.Ramarao lived here, and a street is named after him called Sundara Kanda M.S. Ramarao Lane.

A Famous Cultural Auditorium of Hyderabad after "Ravindra Bharathi" named "Thyagaraya Gana Sabha" is located here,lot of Cultural-based programs and meetings on a daily basis can be witnessed in the auditorium.

Lord Venkateshwara Temple: This Temple is one of the oldest and important landmark of chikkadpally,this temple has got lot of history associated with.

A large group of Cinema Theaters are located at Chikkadpally,which mainly screens Telugu movies of Tollywood film industry.

Chikkadpally is surrounded by Musheerabad, Ashok Nagar, Narayanguda and Bagh Lingampally.

History

According to locals, Chikkadpally derived its name from Chikkad which means Burada in Telugu and Mud in English. Pally means place. Since Chikkadpally is in a low lying area, it is usually plagued by Chikkad (Burada) due to inflow of drain water from nearby nalas.[1] According to few other locals, Chikkadpally derived its name from cheekatipally (Dark place).

Transport

The TSRTC runs the buses connecting to all parts of the city.The closest MMTS Train station is at Vidyanagar or Jamia Osmania.Secunderabad Railway Station is 6 kilometres away and is 25 kilometres away the Rajiv Gandhi International AirPort. The narrow and congested main road of Chikkadapally are being widened to make space for the upcoming Metro Rail project.
