China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue

China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue is a special diplomatic position appointed by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. The Special Envoy takes major responsibilities in facilitating the Arab-Israeli peace process.[1]

The first appointment was declared in 2002, "at the request of several Arab states".[2] Wang Shijie, former Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain, Jordan and Iran was appointed the first Special Envoy,[3] and was succeeded by Sun Bigan in June 2006.[4] In 2009, the post was taken over by Ambassador Wu Sike.[5] Wu is the incumbent Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue of China.[6]
