City and University Library of Osijek (Croatian: Gradska i sveučilišna knjižnica Osijek) is the city library of Osijek and central library of the University of Osijek. It is the biggest library in Slavonia and one of bigger in Croatia.

History

City and University Library of Osijek was established as Osijek City Library (Croatian: Gradska knjižnica Osijek) on 8 February 1949, by decision of City national committee of the City of Osijek.[1]

In 1957 library was moved into former House of Gillming-Hengl, building on European Avenue, where library is located today.

In 1975 was established University of Osijek, whose founder was City Library, so it expanded its activities and assumed functions of university library, so it changed name to City and University Library of Osijek, which it still carries.
