Colin David Newton (born 18 April 1977 in Macduff, Aberdeenshire) is the drummer for the Scottish indie rock band, Idlewild.
A former pizza baker,[1] Newton is known for his galloping drum-style, and his use of Sabian equipment. Prior to joining Idlewild, Newton studied biology at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He was taught to play the drums by Mrs. Sharp, a music teacher at Banff Academy in that time, where he attended school in his teenage years.
He is married to Sheri (née Friers). They have a son called Cohen and twin daughters called Teigan and Pippa. Colin and his family live in North Berwick.
