Colle+McVoy
Colle+McVoy is an advertising agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota[1] that currently employs more than 240 people. The company specializes in modernizing brands in the outdoor/lifestyle, food/beverage, pet, and health/wellness industries.[2] Current clients include Caribou Coffee, CHS, DuPont, Explore Minnesota Tourism, General Mills, Indian Motorcycle, Kozy Shack, Land O'Lakes, Medtronic Foundation, Mountain Hardwear, Nestle Purina, Novartis Animal Health, and WinField, among others.[3]
History
Colle+McVoy began in 1935 when Minneapolis printing executive Alfred Colle abandoned his job to found the Alfred Colle Company in downtown Minneapolis. He began to create advertising for three clients: J.R. Clark Co., Lyle Sign Co., and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). In 1936, Kirk McVoy joined the company and brought with him a few more clients (most notably Weyerhaeuser Co).[1]
The growth experienced during the next three decades led to incorporation. In 1959, the Alfred Colle Co. became Colle & McVoy, Inc., an agency entirely owned by its employees. Clients included Electric Machinery Manufacturing, Hilex, Old Dutch, McGarvey Coffee Co., Alumacraft, TCF, Polaris and others.[1]
In 1970, Colle & McVoy moved from downtown Minneapolis to the suburb of Richfield. It was then that Colle & McVoy landed Northrup King & Co. as a client and transformed from a local business to a national agency. Alfred and Kirk were no longer in the picture when Colle & McVoy outgrew its quarters several times through mergers, acquisitions and new business. New clients included GE Capital, IBM Corporation, Kellogg's and 3M.[1]
In 1999, Colle & McVoy was acquired by the advertising holding company MDC Partners.[2] Seven years later, the agency returned to its downtown Minneapolis roots and moved into the Wyman Building in the Warehouse District, its current location. Since then, the agency has replaced the ampersand (&) with a plus sign (+) in its name and logo, diversified its client roster and experienced year-over-year growth.[3]
