The College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar (CETB) is a government engineering institution in Odisha, India. Established in 1981, by the Government of Odisha (then Orissa) it became a constituent college of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology. Since 2002, CET Bhubaneswar is a constituent college of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The college campus covers 107.8 acres (0.436 km2).

Students are admitted into the college through a Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the government of India. Its intake capacity is 957. The CETB is located in the capital city of Bhubaneswar. [1][2] College of Engineering & Technology Bhubaneswar (CETB) has received the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The Government of Odisha has considered to grant Unitary University status to CETB.[3][4][5][6]

Academic departments

As one of the first Government Institutes of Odisha, College of Engineering & Technology Bhubaneswar (CETB) has received the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The highest rank holder students in the entrance examination join CETB.[7] CETB is one of the most comprehensive Government Engineering Colleges of the State of Odisha in terms of specialization offered or programs available. The Institute currently has 14 departments:

The CETB is a recipient of the TEQIP — II project of the World Bank through MHRD, government of India, New Delhi. CETB is one of the two of the State of Odisha to receive TEQIP-II funds for a period of five years. CETB is the home to the following centers of excellence:

Academic programs

CETB provides Bachelor of Technology degrees in 11 disciplines of engineering:

The Bachelor of Architecture degree is of five-year duration and rest are of four-years duration. Besides CETB offers a three-year Master of Computer Applications programme. The typical enrolment is 60 to 120 for each of the programs.[8] The CETB conducts M.Tech. program in 20 specializations including:

A three-year B.Tech degree for diploma holders as lateral entries is offered. All courses are full-time. In the 2014-15 academic year courses started included M.Tech. in every branche and a 5-year dual degree courses (M.Sc.) along with 2-year M.Sc. in physics and chemistry.

Each academic year consists of two semesters and a summer term. The education system is organised around a credit system, which ensures continuous evaluation of a student's performance and provides flexibility to choose courses to suit the student's ability or convenience. Each course is assigned credits depending upon the class hours.

Eight departments conduct Ph.D. programmes. The Ph.D. program are the following:

Admissions and examinations

B.Tech. and MCA admission to undergraduate degrees is made through a joint entrance examination conducted each year by the government of Odisha. Students are eligible to appear for examinations provided they attend a minimum of 75 per cent of their theory, practical, and sessional classes scheduled during the semester.

CETB has an Internet facility through the National Mission of Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). CETB has overall 20 Mbit/s connection facility via BNSL and NMEICT.

Wi-Fi

CETB thus has round the clock Wi-Fi connectivity for students, faculty, and staff. Wi-Fi is made possible through the National Knowledge Network (NKN) scheme.

Campus

Campus structure

The campus covers the entire Techno-Campus plot, and is 1.9 km NH 5. Despite being in an urban location it is a noise free zone surrounded by the training school of forest rangers and Bhubaneswar Drinking Water Supply Project Water Storage. Close by is Jaydev Vatika, a 200+ acre public park (1.5 km) and AMRI Hospital (1.5 km). SUM Hospital and blood bank is 2.5 km (main gate to main gate on road). A portion of a hill also falls within the campus. Bus no. 333 connects the college to most of the places within the city including railway station, main bus stands air port and Lingaraja Temple.

There are two canteens serving delicacies, three fast food shops and a shopping complex.

There are playgrounds for cricket and football and courts for basketball, badminton, volleyball and tennis, and a gym. The students square at the centre of the academic blocks has a stage facility. There is a Syndicate Bank branch and a BSNL telecom tower on campus. The reading room subscribes to ten newspapers, national and international journals, and magazines.

Supplementing it is the central computer laboratory with high speed fibre optic internet with speeds up to 10 MB/s for academic purposes only and free wi-fi for students with an average speed of 2.5 MB/s .

Campus life

Classes for most start at 10:00 in the morning, and by 17:00 are over. Inbetween there is a free period of 50 minutes. Students can use the rest of the day for clubs, societies, learn to play an instrument or learn a language. By 17:30 all those who have sporting interests are on the playgrounds.

The college also provides outgoing shuttle bus every day at 17:30. For medical needs college arranges for student to be taken to hospital.

There is a Syndicate bank in the campus with a SBI ATM near the campus.

Training and internship

Students take part in training and internship activities. Students have gone ahead for paid internships after the first year. Students have benefited MSME (Government of India) trainings at Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC). CETB students are interning at Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Consultancy Services, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) - Rourkela Steel Plant, National Aluminium Company (NALCO), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) labs, Indian Railways, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), VentureHire (Bangalore), Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL), Vedanta Resources, Dalmia Cements (Rajgangpur), Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Army Base Workshop, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, etc.

Scholarships for students

Most students of CETB receive some form of scholarship. A large number of them are beneficiaries of the CAFAS scholarship scheme which provides INR 10,000 annually. The top 20% students of every class are awarded CET merit scholarship of INR 400 per month. There also exists the Alumni scholarship and FFE scholarship worth INR 25,000 and also other Merit-cum-Need scholarships. There are also several scholarships like Prerna Scholarship the SC & ST development department of state government (INR 25,000- INR 50,000) and scholarships the district administration.

Unitary University status as Odisha Technological University, Bhubaneswar

It is proposed to elevate the College as a unitary Technical University of the state. Biju Pattanaik University of Technology (BPUT) has already issued no-objection certificate for unitary university status of CETB.[3][4][5][6] The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) team has visited the college to examine the college for a university status.[21] As one of the first Government Institutes of Odisha, College of Engineering & Technology Bhubaneswar (CETB) has received the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).[22]
