Connected sport

PIQ Multi sport sensor

Apart from the connected health movement and part of the wearable, a new segment is quickly growing: the connected sport. New actors from US and Europe are emerging, offering connected sensors specialized in measuring any specific movement and gesture from specific sports. Several actors are addressing different sports, such as the 94Fifty Smart Sensor for Basketball, the baseball sensor from Zepp, the Babolat and PIQ for connected tennis.[1][2][3] or connected ski[4] with Garmin, GoPro or PIQ.[5]

Sport tracker

A sport tracker or sport sensor, such as the early 2000 Nike+[6] is a device or application for measuring athletic ability and monitoring and tracking sport related metrics such as acceleration, speed, velocity, height, air time, G force, amplitude, trajectory, etc. The term describes electronic monitoring devices, such as sport sensors that are synced, in many cases remotely via Bluetooth, to a computer or a smartphone for data tracking and performance measurement. There are also embedded smartphone applications.

Multi sport sensor

If most of the sport brands are proposing sensors directly embedded in the sport accessory, a new segment is rapidly emerging with multisport sensors.[7] Some connected sensors are specially designed to measure different sport metrics.[8] For instance, the PIQ[9] multisport sensor is supposed to collect and register all metrics of the sport practice, to measure every movement people make, to digitize performance and to set goals. People wear the sensor at a specific place on their body depending on the kind of sport they practice. For golf[10] people wear it just under the glove[11][12] and the sensor can also be used to practice ski and tennis and the company claims to address other sports with the same sensor.[13]
