The Creighton University School of Dentistry is the dental school of Creighton University. It is located in the city of Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The dental school was one of the first in the United States, establishing itself in 1905, and is widely known as the one of the top institutions in the nation. Since Creighton University School of Dentistry does not offer residency positions in specialty programs, dental students are given the opportunity to perform advanced dental procedures including oral surgery, dental implants, etc. Creighton students are prepared to enter residency programs, dental practice or continue with advanced degrees and specialty training. Approximately 25% of Creighton graduates in the School of Dentistry continue on to earn a specialty degree. Creighton’s dental students and faculty also participate in activities that provide dental care to underprivileged adults and children and volunteer hundreds of hours of service. These activities include Omaha’s One World Community Health Center, “Give Kids a Smile” (dental education and dental services outreach for needy children), service in the Dominican Republic and Special Olympics/Special Smiles Program.

MS Degree in Oral Biology
The graduate program in Oral Biology is a program of study culminating in the Master of Science degree. This is an interdisciplinary research thesis program in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences. The proposed program is flexible and fosters an interdisciplinary approach using School of Dentistry research, courses and facilities to cater to the needs of individual students. A thesis is required. The program is geared towards providing a sound didactic basis for students interested in pursuing dentistry as a profession. It also provides research opportunities and teaching experience in an effort to model graduate students for an academic career as clinician educators and academic dentists.
The program provides a choice of two tracks of study:
- The first is in dental materials and includes didactic and research emphasis in modern materials science.
- The second is in oral biology and emphasizes didactic and research in anatomical sciences and histology.
Both tracks will equip students to analyze research and clinical literature. Both will also provide an opportunity in the second year to teach in 1st year pre-doctoral dental laboratory courses.
Research
Research in the School of Dentistry has expanded over the last decade with growing extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ), and numerous foundations and international corporations. Extramural funding has exceeded $1 million. The school has active research programs in basic biological and material science, health services and translational and clinical trials. Dental students are engaged in research early in their academic career, participating in a research project as part of a course requirement.
