Kaajal Bakrania (born 6 August 1983), better known by her stage name Kayper, is a DJ, Producer and Radio Presenter from the United Kingdom.
Personal life
Kayper was born in London, England and grew up in Croydon, Surrey. After attending Couldson College, she studied Bsc (Hons) Music Technology and (BA) Creative Music at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England.
Early career
Kayper began djing at the age of 12 before playing in bars and clubs around South London in 1998. By the age of 16, she had a residency at London's Ministry of Sound. Kayper gained national recognition after winning the Vestax Juice competition in 2003 making her the first and only female to win the competition. During her time at University, Kayper ran her own club night called "Ebonics" which played host to the likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, and The Scratch Perverts.
2011 - Present
Kayper made her debut as a producer when she collaborated with dubstep collective Engine Earz on the track “Gimme Some” which was co-signed by Diplo and released on his label Mad Decent in 2011. Her first solo single ‘Magic Faces’ gained the attention of BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1Xtra and key blogs such as Hypetrak and Hunger Magazine who described the track as having “80′s & 90′s R&B influences over a housey, 2-step vibe.”
Her follow up single, ‘Out My Mind’, has surpassed 2 million streams on Spotify, garnered substantial airplay on BBC Radio 1 and received a glowing review from Pitchfork. Kayper’s success continued with her next single ‘Someone’, which was released in June 2014 on Spinnin' Records.
On December the 30th 2015, Kayper released her single 'What You Say'[1] with Eton Messy Records.
