Danganronpa 3: The End of Kibōgamine Gakuen (Japanese: ダンガンロンパ3 –The End of 希望ヶ峰学園–, "Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy") is an upcoming television anime, which is being directed by Seiji Kishi at Lerche. It is part of Spike Chunsoft's Danganronpa video game franchise, serving as a conclusion to the "Hope's Peak Academy" storyline established in the games Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The series will be divided into two parts: Mirai-hen (未来編, "Future Chapter"), and Zetsubō-hen (絶望編, "Despair Chapter"), both scheduled to air simultaneously in July 2016.
Plot
The series serves as a conclusion to the storyline of Hope's Peak Academy, the elite school where the Ultimate Despair, Junko Enoshima, played host to a "killing school life" among its students under the guise of the evil bear Monokuma. The story is split up into two chapters; Mirai-hen and Zetsubō-hen. Mirai-hen takes place after the events of Danganronpa and follows Makoto Naegi, a survivor of the killing game and a member of the Future Foundation, along with his fellow survivors Kyoko Kirigiri, Aoi Asahina, and Yasuhiro Hagakure, as they are joined by twelve others as once again clash with Monokuma. Zetsubō-hen takes place prior to the events of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair , depicting what happened to Hajime Hinata and his classmates prior to the events of the game.[1][2][3]

Production
The series is being animated at the anime studio Lerche.[10] It is supervised by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka,[2][10] who also is in charge of the original scenario concepts. It is directed by Seiji Kishi, written by Norimitsu Kaihō, composed for by Masafumi Takada, and featuring character designs by Kazuaki Morita and Ryoko Amisaki. Returning characters are designed by Rui Komatsuzaki. The series was announced at a Danganronpa press conference in December 2015,[2] The anime will be split into two parts: Mirai-hen and Zetsubō-hen, both parts airing simultaneously in July 2016 with an episode from each part airing every week.[9]
The series is intended to be the final chapter of the "Hope's Peak Academy" series within the Danganronpa franchise,[2] while the third main game in the series, New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shingakki, focuses on a new setting and set of characters;[3][11] according to the Danganronpa development staff, it is difficult to work on both the anime and New Danganronpa V3 at the same time, but that they are giving it their all since the opportunity to do something like it does not come up often.[1] Initially, an anime adaptation of Danganronpa 2 had been planned, but in the end the development staff opted for making an anime that takes place after Danganronpa 2 instead. While there had originally been plans to conclude the "Hope's Peak Academy" storyline with something involving class trials, it was thought that it would have been too painful for the characters to go through another killing game, which was what led to the decision to make the conclusion into an anime.[1] According to Kodaka, the series will feature content that can only be expressed within the anime medium.[2] The production staff intend to make the series suspenseful, despite not including any investigations.[1]
