David Upton (born 30 October 1989) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League.
Playing career
Upton first played ice hockey in when he joined the Brisbane Blue Tongues (now the Gold Coast Blue Tongues) of the Australian Ice Hockey League.[1] During his first season Upton played 11 games, scoring three goals and two assists.[1] Upton has continued to play for the Blue Tongues, following the team when they moved from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. In 2012 Upton left the Blue Tongues after seven seasons and signed with the Newcastle North Stars.[1]
Upton was first called up for international play in 2006 when he joined the national under-20 team for Australia to compete at the 2006 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships Division II Group A tournament in Bucharest, Romania.[2] The following year Upton again joined the under-20 team to compete at the 2007 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships Division II Group A tournament where Australia lost every game and were relegated to Division III for the following year.[3] In 2009 Upton was called up to the Australian men's senior team to compete at the 2009 IIHF World Championship Division I Group A tournament which was being held in Vilnius, Lithuania. Australia lost every game and were relegated back to Division II for the following year.[4] In 2011 he was called up again for the men's senior team to compete at the 2011 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament which was being held in Melbourne, Australia.[5]
