The Dead & Company Summer Tour 2016 is a scheduled concert tour by the rock band Dead & Company that is scheduled to take place in June and July 2016.[1][2][3]
It will be the band's second tour, following their 2015 tour.[4] At the band's final show for the 2015 tour at the The Forum in Inglewood, California, John Mayer hinted that the band would continue touring in 2016, stating at the conclusion of the show, "At the risk of rocking any boats—known and unknown—we'll see you next year."[5]
Overview
The Dead & Company Summer Tour 2016 is scheduled to take place between June 9 and July 16, 2016. They are scheduled to perform a total of 24 concerts in 20 different cities which will include performing at three different baseball[6] and football stadiums. They are also going to be one of the headliners at the 2016 Bonnaroo Music Festival.[7] The tour was initially announced as consisting of 18 different shows, all taking place primarily on the east coast of the United States but on March 14, 2016 six additional dates were announced at different venues on the west coast of the United States.
The tour will end with the July 30 show at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.[6] The final concert on the east coast is scheduled for July 16 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. During the course of their career, the Grateful Dead never performed at Fenway Park, and these concerts will mark the first shows ever performed there by members of the former band.[6]
John Mayer will be performing some of the vocals that used to be sung by the late Jerry Garcia.[6] Phil Lesh, one of the "core four" original members of the Grateful Dead, will not be performing at the shows.[6]
On February 18, 2016 the band performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the tour.[8]
Tour dates
The band is scheduled to perform a total of 24 concerts in 20 different U.S. cities. The Bonnaroo Music Festival show was announced before the additional tour dates.[9]
