Defence Housing Authority, Islamabad-Rawalpindi is a housing society located in the twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Due to the location of the housing society, the name was considered controversial and confusing. However, Defense Housing Authority recently updated its name on 19 March 2013. It has now been established that Phase I and Phase I Extension is located in the city of Rawalpindi, while the rest of the land (Phase II and Phase II Extension) in Zone V of the capital city Islamabad.[2] It was primarily established for Defence service personnel in 1992 by Armed Forces of Pakistan welfare department. It is spread over an area of about 97, 903 Kanals (50 sq Km).

DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi is subdivided in five phases:

DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi is headed by a serving Brigadier of Pakistan army under the W&R (Welfare and Rehabilitation) Directorate of Pakistan Army.

Locations

DHA Islamabad-Rawalpindi Phase I is located in Rawalpindi south east of Morgah and Attock Refinery, Rawalpindi. This phase on its south west enjoys waters of Soan River, while this phase is linked to the city through GT Road and Jhelum Road. It covers an area of 11000 Kanals (5.56 Sq. km) providing a total of 3100 residential plots.[3] An even greater area acquired by Defense Housing Authority just south west of Phase I has been named Phase I Extension and covers a total of 16750 Kanals (8.47 Sq. km). It is located at the south end of Rawalpindi city near Askari XIV Housing Society, and its perimeter extending as far as Dhagal village on Adyala Road of Rawalpindi District and Rawalpindi Central Jail. The extension is still under development and will be completed in two parts. The development of part one has already begun.[4]

Located in Zone V of Islamabad near the infamous Kahuta Triangle, with GT Road on its south end and Islamabad Highway on its North. The project was commenced in February 1994, this phase stretches on 15060 Kanals (7.61 Sq. km). Here over 90% of the developmental projects have been completed and construction in this phase is rather rapid as over 500 plots are under construction.[5] Phase II Extension launched in March 2005 is the a massive project standing at 55000 kanals (27.81 Sq. km). According to DHAIR website "The masterplan is designed by world-renowned Town Planning company 'OJRM' Los Angeles, USA.".[6] Extension has of Phase II has been divided into sectors; namely, A, B, C and D.

Launched on 18 August 2008, is located Adjacent to Phase II in Zone V of Islamabad. This project takes into consideration lower income families as it incorporates residential plot sizes of 5 and 8 marla. Moreover, it also contains 4 and 8 marla commercial plots.[7]

Now DHA Islamabad has launched its commercial program for businessmen, the project is situated in DHA Islamabad Phase II and it's far from residential houses of Phase II. Moreover, its exact location is between GT Road and Islamabad Highway.[8]
