The Disneyland Paris Hotel is a hotel located at Disneyland Paris. This hotel serves as the resort's flagship hotel and is marketed as such and priced accordingly. This luxury hotel is designed to recreate the opulent Victorian hotels which emerged in the United States around the end of the 19th century, mainly taking architectural details from the Queen Anne and Second Empire varieties. Located between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasia Gardens, the hotel is situated above the entrance turnstiles and ticket booths for Disneyland Park

Description

History

When designing Euro Disneyland, Tony Baxter wanted to ensure the entrance turnstiles matched the detail and architecture of the park. In previous parks, such as Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland, the entry turnstiles were banal and plain, having no relation to the entrance of the park. Baxter wanted the park to be warm and welcoming to Europeans and knew that a grand entrance was necessary. However, designing an opulent turnstile and ticket booth would not be feasible and it was decided that the only way to do so would be by adding a hotel above the turnstiles. In addition, the hotel provides coverage from the northern French weather for guests waiting to enter or purchase tickets.

The hotel opened with the Euro Disney Resort in April 1992.

It was the first hotel to be built at the entrance of a Disney park, inspiring future hotels such as Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta, and the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, all of which are located at the entrance or inside the park.

Design

Keeping the theme of adjacent Main Street, U.S.A., Imagineers had to ensure that the hotel would be harmonious with its surroundings, as the structure would be visible within the park. Architectural details such as clapboard and trim styled in a palette of creams and pinks, octagonal and Mansard roofs with dormera, a Mickey Mouse clock tower, goldleaf finishes, and wraparound porches help to ease the transition to the park. Octagonal turrets help to further this cohesion. The Imagineers who designed the park's Main Street partnered with architecture firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo on the project.,.[1] The Disneyland Hotel is the only hotel that Walt Disney Imagineering designed at Disneyland Paris. Wimberly, Allison, Tony, & Goo also co-designed Disney's Grand Floridian Resort (opened in 1988), which was based on the Hotel Del Coronado and thus many of the same characteristics from that project were developed for the Paris property. In order to distinguish the French hotel from the darker European skies, the color was changed to a rose color for the walls rather than the white walls of the Grand Floridian. Also, the roofs are dark pink rather than red.

The hotel consists of three buildings, all connected to each other by two sky bridges with views of Disneyland Park and Fantasia Gardens. The two outer wings are in the shape of a U while the central building, with the turnstiles and ticket booths on the first floor, is more rectangular shaped. As seen from Fantasia Gardens, the hotel seems perfectly symmetrical. The eastern U shaped wing possesses the guest porte-cochere, main vaulted lobby, reception, and lifts to reach other areas of the hotel. Upper levels contain guest rooms. The central portion of the hotel, connected to the other wings by bridges on the second floor, contains the ticket booths and turnstiles for the park on the ground level. Also on the ground level are private lifts for guests to enter the hotel. On the second level are restaurants and shops and a central rotunda while the third and fourth floors contain the Castle Club, a concierge club, with large windows and views of Main Street and Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant, and guest rooms. The west wing, in the shape of another U, possesses the hotel's indoor swimming pool, fitness club, and more guest rooms. A garden is enclosed by the hotel.

Guest rooms

The hotel has 496 guest rooms and 18 suites. The standard rooms are 34 m² and have two queen beds and double sinks in the bath. Rooms are decorated in a Victorian style, with subtle Disney theming. Only Castle Club rooms offer a true park view, although a number of standard rooms overlook the park entrance.

The Castle Club is the hotel's concierge level. Guests have access to a private lounge, the Castle Lounge, complete with complimentary snacks, drinks and private lift to Disneyland Park. Castle Club guests also enjoy the company of Disney characters at breakfast.

The Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella suites are the hotel's most prestigious rooms. Both offer panoramic views of Disneyland Park and come with a private living room, fireplace, dining room, and en-suite master bedroom.
