It was organized by DreamHack with help from Valve Corporation and the Professional Gamers League. The tournament had a total prize pool of $250,000 USD.

Team EnVyUs was the winner of the event after beating Natus Vincere in the finals. The final scores were 16-14 on Train and 16-5 on Cobblestone.[1] Fnatic failed to win their third Major in a row, instead placing 5-8.[2]

Richard Lewis and Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner hosted the event. Pala "Mantrousse" Gilroy Sen and Scott "SirScoots" Smith were the main interviewers for the event. The commentators were Anders Blume, Auguste "Semmler" Massonnat, Matthew "Sadokist" Trivett, Henry "HenryG" Greer, Daniel "ddk" Kapadia and James "JZFB" Bardolph. The analysts were Duncan "Thorin" Shields, Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson, Joona "natu" Leppänen and Jason "Moses "O'Toole.[3]

The top eight teams from the previous CS:GO Major, ESL One Cologne 2015 and non-Major tournament DreamHack Open Stockholm 2015 qualified for the DreamHack Cluj-Napoca.[4] Teams qualifying from Cologne were Fnatic, Team EnVyUs, Team SoloMid, Virtus.pro, Natus Vincere, Team Kinguin, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Luminosity Gaming.[5] Teams qualifying from Stockholm were Cloud9, Counter Logic Gaming, mousesports, TItan, Team Dignitas, FlipSid3 Tactics, Team Liquid, and Vexed Gaming.[6]

The first, round-robin group stage consisted of 16 teams in four groups. For the next stage the top two teams in each group were then seeded into a single-elimination bracket.[7]
