Erastus S. Prosser

Erastus Sabinus Prosser (September 2, 1809 - 1887) was an American politician from New York.

Life

He was born in the area which was in 1815 separated as the Town of Westerlo, Albany County, New York. At an early age he removed to Albany, New York, and engaged in the forwarding business. Later he removed to Buffalo, New York, and continued his business there until about 1858 when he retired. In 1834, he married Lucy Wilbur, and they had three children, among them Harriet Prosser (1836–1909) who was married to Chief Judge William C. Ruger (1824–1892).

Prosser entered politics as a Democrat, joined the Free Soil Party in 1848, and the Republican Party upon its foundation in 1855. He was a member of the New York State Senate (31st D.) from 1859 to 1861, sitting in the 82nd, 83rd and 84th New York State Legislatures.

He was a delegate to the New York State Constitutional Convention of 1867–68.

He was buried at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo.
