History

Although the Fijians began to emigrate to United States, as a minimum, since the early 1950s (if not before), when six people of this origin (three in 1953 and other three in 1954) arrived in the country, it is since 1959 that small Fijian groups have come to United States in more significant numbers. In this year 71 people arrived. Later, in 1968, United States accepted other 368 more Fijians with legal status. Later, in 1996, 1,847 more Fijians arrived in the US and, in 1997, 1,549 Fijians arrived with legal status.[3]
